Pillar Design Studios Skate Spot Program : Concrete Skateparks On Any BudgetPillar Design Studios launched “The Skate Spot Program” in 2006 to offer communities with limited funding and or space the opportunity to have a CONCRETE facility. For everyone who is unaware of what this term means: Skate Spots are typically small skateparks that are integrated into an existing park. This type of facility is easily funded and developed and often utilized by local users who lack transportation to the larger facilities.

Over the past few years we have seen the concept of Skate Spots develop and merge into a great option for local Skaters. We are happy to see Skate Spots not only as an alternative option to temporary above ground ramps but also as an addition to the larger facilities, such as a community or regional Skatepark. As the Skate Spot idea progresses, they are becoming an integral part of an overall Skate System, where as a series of Skate spots are placed throughout your community to tie your park systems all together.

Typically, a community or regional Skatepark can take two to three years from idea to completion. One of the main advantages to Skate spots is that due to their simplicity you can avoid the lengthy and usually costly process that a larger Skatepark entails.

Key Advantages to Skate Spots

• The cost is much less to design and build
• They are integrated into existing parks, no need for additional park elements
• They offer the local users, especially those who are unable to drive to the larger facilities, a safe place to skate
• They calm residence concerns, since this type of park has a smaller amount of users
• A great way for beginners to learn and practice their sport
